If you don't take action now, to learn new ways of being, life continues to be overwhelming. We often wait for life to calm before we make changes, but without tools those changes feel impossible.

My name is Melanie Vassell

I’m a Registered Psychologist practicing in Okotoks, Alberta, Canada.  I’ve been teaching Dialectical Behaviour Therapy skills for over 20 years and use these skills in my day-to-day life as well. I’m rather passionate about these skills and hope you’ll be as excited about them by the end of this course.

I began my career as a crisis worker, family worker, and mental health counsellor in social work field. After 17 years of providing mental health supports to vulnerable children and families, I went back to school to become a psychologist. DBT has been my main modality of providing support and therapy for over 25 years now. I love the dance between logic and emotions that DBT provides, weaving science and art together. The skills provide the concrete steps to understanding and experiencing emotions, while honouring the complexity of the human experience.

In my personal life, I’m a wife and a mom to three amazing teens that make it easy to brag! My family keeps me well entertained; I’m often at a hockey arena or a ball diamond watching my kids demonstrate their passions. I am also a geek, and in my free time, I’m often reading research and I’m always interested in learning.

I took this program because I was told by my lawyer too. I didn't think that I would actually learn anything. After the first session. I realized that the information, was just what I needed to help me understand my struggles and how to be a better partner and a better parent. It also backed by research.... I am such a changed person. I wish I was taught this before I was became an adult. -Peter
